frogspawn and clowns

I have a frogspawn and just added two pearl eyed clowns to the tank. they seem to take interest in the spawn. is the spawn a protective anemone to the clowns?

Not a protective anemone, but clowns may take home to any coral.

I am getting ready to start my first reef tank. I have a 60 gallon tank. I have a 4 stage canister filter with a 9w UV sterilizer built in. Can I run the filter empty of medium and use it just as a sterilizer?

Keep an eye on that frogspawn. Sometimes clowns can be a little rough on certain corals. The pair I have did a number on a Duncan coral one time. It just did not look good due to all the interaction.
