I think it is but lets figure it out. So I have an Apex and the Ph probe is a BRS one and is almost 5 years old.

I noticed over the past two days that the Ph will drop suddenly to 7.30 or so. If I swish it around in the water it will come back up to normal. There is no build up on the sensor or the unit itself.

I think it may be bad.

Do you have a back up liquid test to compare when the probe isn't jumping around. Either way though it sounds messed up. I have read they should be replaced every yr to 18 months.

and is almost 5 years old.

yeah its about 3yrs past its prime. once you do get a new one, clean it once a month by gently scrubbing the bulb with an old soft toothbrush. recalibrate it 3 times a year. replace somewhere when its in its 2nd year of service.

Well I guess I got my money's worth.

Ive had mine for almost 8 years now. The test solutions always seem to be spot on when I calibrate.

I suppose I would replace it if I was using it with a reactor or something.
