Have a question on the Trigger Crystal 36 sump

I'm upgrading from a 30g to a 75g and needed help with a question I have about the crystal trigger 36 sump. I know everyone seems to have the ruby over the crystal but I was wondering if anyone who has the crystal had any problems with algae growth in the drain/skimmer section of the sump because if the clear baffle if they're using it as a Refugium. The crystal and ruby are the same exact dimensions but cost is different and I don't need the prob holders the ruby comes with because my neptune probes won't fit in them anyway. Just concerned with the possible algae growth with the crystal. If anyone has any insight please let me know. Thanks again!
