Hi there, I am reasonably new to the fish keeping hobby.
I have joined this forum to hopefully find some peeps to chat about building aquariums. I have an old style corner tv cabinet that I am hoping to turn the middle tv section into an aquarium. I will upload a pic of it as soon as i work out how :) its not the right type of image apparently. So far my idea is to line it all with glass because I want to be able to see the gorgeous dark wood through the tank. So just as you would make a glass aquarium only making it within the cabinet. I will cut out the middle of the panel above that leads to some cupboards and hide the filter and all in there. Obviously all the insides will need a waterproofing spray for condensation etc.
One of my thoughts is will the walls need to be made of single solid glass slabs of could I do it kind of mosaic style because the cabinet would be supportive enough to hold the water much like a water proofed plywood tank??

I would build a glass box with the proper dimensions to fit the available space, leaving room for plumbing to the filtration. Don't forget that you will likely need to add legs to the console in order to provide sufficient long-term support for the increased weight.

They did this on an episode of "tanked".

Make sure you have enough room above and behind the tank. I had a tank in a TV stand a few years ago and it was a miserable hassle to do maintenance on. And the lack of room behind the tank led to salt creep damaging the stand over time. Even though I had the inside coated, the creep managed to get down into the seams of the stand.

Not to discourage you from doing it, because my TV tank looked really cool. Just sharing the issues I ran into.

Thanks so much guys!!! Hearing about what may be wrong with an idea is even more important than hearing about whats right with an idea! I need to work out how to upload a picture of the cabinet....

That stand almost looks like you could fit in a 46 gallon bowfront backwards. I have a 46 bow and have in the past considered turning it around. I think it would look cool with the bow towards the back to give the tank more depth.
