I think it's a pencil urchin.
Mine was a coral eater!

Rock Boring Urchin, I used to have one, they have super long tubefeet like this. He won't hurt nothing but maybe some coraline.

Yours is way cooler than mine. Mine never, ever, ever comes out in daylight. He hitchhiked in smaller than a grain of rice. I wasn't sure what he was. Now he's jawbreaker size. He doesn't hurt anything. I see him at night, always burrowing into the rocks.
Congrads on your awesome freebie find!

Thanks! I kinda turned the light on him when he was out doing his thing so he high tailed it back to his cave after I took the pics. with all those stripes im convinced he's a banded urchin

High tailed it back to the rocks huh? :lmao: Good to know yours hides too; mine's the same. Even red light seems to bother him. I don't know anything about urchins but yours sure looks like a banded to me too. Mine is solid black. Do rock boring come in a banded variety? Those were good photos btw.

Rock boring urchins are a very confused species to identify.. you can research them by their exact species and still get images of urchins who seem fatter with shorter spines... or an entirely different urchin with no white bands around the base of their spines.

They have very long tubefeet. I had one, never saw him.. after I added him I got a glimpse a month later and that was it.

He's definitly something very close to this.

This would be a banded urchin..

And a pencil since I see a few people mentioning these.

The long tubefeet are something I've never seen on anything. I'll have to second the ID of rock borer, if those are normal for them.
