So long story short when I first setup my tank one of the first corals I put in there was this bubble coral. Algae quickly colonized on exposed skeleton and ultimately killed this coral. Rather than toss the skeleton I put it in my fuge for a pod hostel. Just noticed this see pic below. So should I leave it in the fuge or move it back in the display. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y351/atorx/Mobile%20Uploads/image-73.jpg (http://s1029.photobucket.com/user/atorx/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image-73.jpg.html)

IMO bubbles algae has thousands upon thousands of spores inside that bubble just waiting to pop and spread throughout your water column. with spores floating around IMO they would infect the entire system. can someone tell me I'm wrong and why?

You and SwampyBill completely missed the point of the photo on this one I'm afraid.

In his photo the bubble coral is coming back to life on a little piece of the skeleton. He's asking if he should move the bubble coral (not bubble algae) back into his tank.

OP, in my opinion, you should leave it the coral in your refugium. My guess is that it's consuming lots of copepods and amphipods and clearly the light on your refugium is meeting it's photosynthesis needs. Let the coral recover significantly until you can see new skeletal growth. Then reconsider.

I think he's saying the Bubble coral has survived and is growing again not that its bubble algae. Why anyone would want to move bubble algae to there display is beyond me.

If it is in fact making a comeback it has acclimated to the lights in your fuge so probably start it low in the tank. Its up to you man.

How long has it been down there this is pretty amazing.

There are literally 20+ bristle worms and tons of pods living in the skeleton, so it baffles me how anything could grow in those conditions.

Literally about two months, I just tossed it down there to give the pods something else to colonize. I was pretty amazed when I noticed this also.

My pod numbers are crazy high and diverse I've got a chili coral and and orange gorg that are growing like crazy in there as well. I got the gorg from a lfs for free, it literally had 90-95 percent of all it's tissue gone. Now it's regrow ing too. Everything I've learned has just been turned upside down lmao. My fuge is apparently doing some incredible things.

I'm curious about your fuge lighting I'm running just a 20 watt led flood the cheap Chinese type. It grows macro well but I don't think it could resurrect coral LOL.

Id leave it for sure. It must like something down there. Let it come back to the point its very strong, then move it to the DT.

If it's barely surviving in the sump move it up to a low light spot in the display. Only a matter of time before it just gives up in the sump.

Very cool, I had one come back once after two years in the sump.

Not barely surviving, it's regrowing. Shoot I thought it was dead!

what size tank is your fuge?

I agree that you should leave it where it is for the time being.

Old pic of sump don't mind the stain color I wasn't happy with it so I went dark mocha. It's a my reef creations sump, fairly large for my 40 breeder. http://i1029.photobucket.com/albums/y351/atorx/Mobile%20Uploads/image-58.jpg (http://s1029.photobucket.com/user/atorx/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image-58.jpg.html)

Amazing recovery! It must really like the conditions in the fuge.

I keep my fuge pretty dirty tons of pods, macro, sponges, worms. I do use a turkey vaster to suck up detritus but that's it.

I had the exact situation. Had a bubble coral that came with a tank that was covered with aptaisa. I couldn't bring myself to toss it as there was a tiny bit of pink bubble still alive but the skeleton was COVERED in aptaisa. I ended up taking a dremmel to it and taking it down as small as I could and glued it to a plug. The Skelton even ended up splitting all the way up the the flesh through the middle of the skeleton. I just glued that together too. It was a terrible job. Two months later and it's not only still alive but doubled in size.

Leave it. The fuge has helped it recover this far so I think I would leave it where it is currently in recovery mode since it is already recovering. I wouldn't move it to the display until it is larger and well-recovered.

Yup, leave it. Chances are high that is why it is coming back in the first place. Something in that location it likes. Let mother nature take its course.
