Does anyone have this wavemaker yet? I am trying to see the big difference between the WP 60 vs Rw 20. I'm about to pull the plug and purchase one or the other. trying to see the differences. My tank is a 125 gallon the 6ft long version....

I think the rw has more control over the flow and also has a more spread out flow

I have a couple of RW-15s I initially purchased for a 93 cube build. They will be far too strong for a 93 cube!

I tried one out in my 4' 120 tonight (almost done refilling after breaking it down to catch fish for ich treatment). It is dramatically stronger than a Tunze 6105. In fact, I'd say the difference between it and a 6105 is greater than the difference between a 6105 and a 6095 by a large margin.

Turned about halfway up in ELSE (semi-random flow) mode, it was generating vortexes that were sucking bubbles down on the OPPOSITE SIDE of the tank. The amount of total water movement the single rw-15 generated was substantially greater than two 6095s set up to generate a gyre.

I'd honestly be pretty shocked if the RW-15 proved inadequate for a 6' tank given how much power it has in a 4' tank. Very wide flow too.

I just ordered three RW-8s for my 180 over the weekend. I have read so many reports that even dialed down all the way the RW-15s still caused sand storms in some tanks. I have a really fine sand and I know for sure it would more than likely cause a problem in my tank. I figured three of the RW-8s would work well. One on each side and one on the back. Hopefully I don't run into any syncing issues a couple guys had.

I have the rw20 running at 1/3 mode in my 180 blowing sand all over at the other end of the tank. It's one powerful pump...

I actually just ordered a pair of RW-8s. Maybe if I only kept SPS that prefer extreme high flow they'd do the trick, but I also have a few LPS corals, and honestly even many of SPS don't seem to like the flow that extreme.

The RW-15s were positioned as being similar to a WP-40 in terms of power, but it seems like they're probably closer to a WP-60.

What would you suggest for a 75 Gal tank?

I'm getting ready to order soon. After reading the experiences you guys have had I think I'm going to use 2 rw-8 for a 72" 150g. Maybe can add a 3rd then if there are dead spots.

I have two rw20's in my 220 and it is way too much. I have to have it on the lowest setting. I have since ordered the 12v power supplies and its much better.
I would go for the RW15 next time.

Wow, I have a 6 foot x 3 foot x 3 foot, currently running 2xwp60s.
What should I go with now ?

I went with a rw-20 and a rw-15 in my 180. It gives it a more wave in and wave out when opposite sides of the tank in communication mode. I have them both on the lowest settings but get great flow

Hi, what would you recommend for a 200 gallons (7 feet) FOWLR system? RW-20 or RW-15? I m more inclined towards RW20, but i ve heard that it creates sand storms even at lowest settings.

Mujtaba,
The two RW-20 would probably work best for a 7ft tank imo. You just have to play with the locations in the tank with my rw-15 andrw-20 on both ends i have them turned down now but have the higher on the sides and do not have issues with sand storms. It is like any other power head you have play with locations to get it right. But i would say start on lowest setting and work you way up as you get things placed and see how the flow is moving. Rock work will change how the flow goes also.

I have 1 wp-40 in corner behind rock and one RW-20 on one side and it have this set on minimum flow and water moves pretty good and I have plenty of room if I need to dial up. This tank is a beast and quiet and great product for money. My tank dimensions are 48x32x32.

I had two RW-15 in my 75 gal tank (48'' long), was dialed down to min and was still too strong so I changed them to two RW-8 and now it's perfect. Also they are much smaller and looks better in the tank.

Staisman, I am trying to decide which RW's to get. Can you run the two RW-8's in else mode on your tank? What settings do you run them at?

I have a RW-20 on my tank and my acrylic is 1 3/4 inch thick. It is a little loose but haven't had and issue....so I would imagine it would work fine on your tank.

Hello everyone i now have a 220 gallon mixxed reef,i upgraded from 125 which i had 1 wp40 in it.well when i upgraded to 220 i purchased 2 rw20s WOW what a differance.i always used W1 settting on speed 1/3 well i switched to else mode and blew all the sand from the front of tank all over my.corals amd it pushed it towards the back of tank..i think i killed 20+ heads of lord acans on 3 dif colonies. Bottom line is i cant believe the power differance between the wps amd rws.as for the magnet i wish it was a little stronger as my glass is 3/4 thick it does slip very slightly i think 3/4 is max for these pumps.but over awesome product for the money..

Go with it. I'm quickly becoming a fan of the RW line even though at first I did not like it. My RW15's have a lot of power and they seem to hold the power longer then the WP line did.

Hi there!

I am also having big headache in choosing I single Jebao to paired with my MP 40, my tank 3 feet x 2 feet x 2 feet or 36" x 24 " x 24" or 90 cm x 60 cm x 60cm. I am choosing between RW 15 or RW 8 .

I am afraid flow of RW 15 even at half of the speed will still be too strong . I got both SPS and LPS , buying this additional pumps because my MP40 still has some dead spot that need to add another one on his opposite site .

anyone can give me a good suggestions ?

RW15 will be too much. Go with RW8.

If I use Rw15 and set only half of the speed (just in case it really strong) , will it be an option ? Because I am thinking at the opposite end if MP 40 is in full blast then the wave created by RW 8 May not be able to push it thru??? Is this possible ?

I was planning on getting 2 RW 15's for my 150 gal 4 inch, but now I am not sure. Do you think it would be too much power?

I have a couple wp40 pumps that crapped out after about a year. It's disappointing because it seems to be something electronic inside the epoxy block that failed, not the mechanics of the pump, not the controller. A heavier duty electronic component would have cost only a few cents more...

What are your long term results with the RW series?

I am thinking of replacing the WP 40 pumps with RW 20 pumps running on low, with the hope that will extend the pump's life.

Zero issues after years of use after modding them (both RW and WP pumps)

The constant on/off from using these pumps to create a wave killed three WP-40 pumps in less than a year. The others are OK. Something inside the epoxy motor block died.

Nice mod, BTW.

Just started checking into the rw models. Are there different versions like there is fir the doser? I'm replacing 2 wp40s that stopped running. Tried the mod but still don't spin so thought I'd give the new ones a shot.

It's so subjective.

I have two 15s that were in a 55, just transferred them to my new 75. I have them with a JB wave on full random, 40% constant speed and each powerhead ramps up randomly between 0.1-1 second from 40-100%.

I still don't think it's enough flow.

I have an RW-4 on my tank, but my brother has an RW-15 on his. Works great. Great controller.
