looking for a skimmer for a 125g mixed reef which will eventually have a large bio load and was looking at the ATB 840. any comments or suggestions would be great.

They make great skimmers and use a great pump. That said, the 840 may be a bit oversized for your system but I think it would be fine as it does have a reasonably small neck diameter. I would contact ATB USA and speak with Chad about your needs. Going oversized isn't necessarily a great idea with these skimmers as you may face inconsistency once the skimmer catches up with your waste load.
If you want Chads number, send me a PM and I will give it to you.

With all due respect, I must disagree. In the ATB fan club thread there are many 840 users with much smaller tanks that have been very happy with them.

There one in the for sale forum thats going for a great price right now.

My old ATB 840v2 on a 120g. Light bio-load by the way only 4 fish. Hope this helps. I highly suggest it. Great skimmer.

Great skimmers... I chuckle a bit when someone calls a cone skimer a "fad" or "gimmick".

That is exactly why I said "may be bit a bit oversized but I think it would be fine".. Either way, that is great information. The owner of ATB USA is a friend of mine and I know these are great skimmers. As long as it will work (size wise) for the OP's tank, I think he will be very happy with his choice should decide to go that route.

IMO, it would be a great fit for a 120. I know a few reefers that have them on their 120 and they couldn't be happier. Also, with ATB USA back in business, it's nice to have US support if needed.

A fellow reefer just got his 840 and notice the double bubble plate

I agree that the 840 would do very well on your tank. I have run one on a 112g for the last few years and it does well.

A great skimmer for your tank!
