Hello everyone I've been a member for quite a while but I have never posted here I would like to say thank you for all of the grate information I have found here. I have had fowler and reef tanks for the past 10 years or so and had switched between the two a few times through out the years. So when me and my wife decided to move out of our apartment 18 moths ago and into are house we did a full Reno and with that obviously came planning for new larger tank our last tank was a 150 gal. The new tank is going to fit between a stair case and wall behind our dining room table so it had to be custom. 9' x 3' x 2' with external overflow 2 sides viewable front and left with the over flow on the right side. So with the construction of the house taking longer than expected and the birth of my son the tank project got put on hold but I did manage to run plumbing drain pipes and data wires from the tank to where my water change station is. So fastforward to this past February and I finally ordered my new tank I was between acrylic and glass for a while but with it having to go up to the second floor and the only way being through the second floor balcony I decided to go with acrylic. While I waited for my tank I built my sump 7' x 25" x 20" 1/2" acrylic I orderd my skimmer skimz monster sm 302 waveline dc pump as a feed for it 300 and 500 w titanium heater with a finnex controller a reeflo snapper gold I already had my apex.

How do you upload more than one pic at a time

dave.m

You can't upload more than one image at a time. It is better to upload your images to a dedicated image host on the web (e.g. Photobucket, Flickr, etc.) and then link them back here to RC using the yellow icon in the Editor. http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee377/djm_1/Forum%20Images/forum_mountain_img_icon.jpg

Putting your images on an image host serves them up faster, and it lets people see your images on RC without logging in. You can link up to ten images per post in RC.

Thank you he loves the tank and the skimmer works very well I added a self cleaning head and a wash down for the cup that is turned on once a day and goes down the drain keeps it from stinking up the house.

Her is a pic of the stand minus the top bec I had to drop the sump in first

I glued a shower pan liner to a piece of foam pvc and placed it in the bottom of the stand just to keep any water that might leak contained within the stand so it can go directly down the drain

So, is this going to be a FOWLR or a reef tank? Love the dimensions. Rocks too symmetrical though ..... yeah, I know, you didn't ask .... but, hey, what are fellow reefer for ..... :)

It's not going to be a reef I just don't have the time to commit to a full reef but I do plan on having diff mushrooms zoas star polyps Xenia a lot of the easy stuff that will cover the rocks and add lots of color there will be a lot of fish mostly tangs and either 2 Bali cat sharks or 2 short tail nurse sharks still not sure And a dragon moray
As for the rocks I will prob change the left side down the road not so happy with how that side came out but I def want to keep it open

Not sure yet but I'm leaning towards the ai hydras I'm not going to need that much lighting with what I plan on keeping but the control is important I have some time my cabinets are not ready yet and the tank is still cycling if any body has any recommendations On lighting

So I got my apex running all the outlets programmed but the USB cable I ran through the walls is not working so my 4 outlets that control my water change and my ro don't work they are only about 30' away does anyone have any experience with the USB being to long

dave.m

Max run for USB is 5 metres (16'5" feet) for high speed USB, 3 metres (9'10") for low speed. You can, however, add a USB 2.0 repeater that will extend your signal to 50'.

Theres a company that makes a 50ft cable just for the apex. I bought one and just set it up on my system. It its controlling outlets just about 30 ft away. I will look for the company and post when I find it.

Apex only uses the USB cable... it is NOT usb compatible! Please NEVER plug anything into it like a laptop. Do not use a usb repeater either.

usbfirewire is the company to use.

make sure you pick the one that says for apex.

I will have two 200 gallon mixing / rodi tanks. They will be connected via a EB8.

Mixing and pump control.

Well, they will be up once I do some more re-arranging in the fish room.

Nice catch. Thx for that. While I have experience with USB on PCs I have little experience with Apex (just EB8).
