For my next build, I am torn between making a cube or another rectangular tank. I am using the glass from my old 30 so am restricted to a cube to being 14.5" or I am thinking a rectangular tank with the dimensions 18" x 14.5" x 14.5". I am just stuck between the two and cannot decide at all. I'm just hoping to get some opinions.

The cube will hold approx. 13 gallons and the rec will hold ~16.

Cheers!

I would go with the rectangular tank if you can light it with one light.

Lighting is not an issue as it has not been purchased yet. I am liking the dimensions of the rec.

Thanks

Rectangle. I've never owned a cube tank, but when I see them in person it just doesn't do it for me. I don't know what it is. Plus, rectangle gives live stock more room to swim back and forth in one direction

I learned something in the past. I have had a 110 g rect and a 50 g rect... The scapes and look of it never really looked anything more than "stacked rocks". Thats some basic stuff.. I was never happy.

Switched to cubes and the potential is endless! I never went back.

Thanks everyone, I think I may go with the Rec. I like a lot of the cube scapes but it seems alittle odd in the room, plus the rec dimensions still seems to have a "cubic look" to it, which I like!

Thanks!

Having owned both (in nano sizes) I would say go with the rectangular. I do like cubes but only 14.5" is hard to deal with.

BTW...the 18" tank is perfect for some of the nicer LED fixtures.
