I just set up my first qt tank ever. I've had the filter pad for the hob sitting in the sump of another tank for almost 2 weeks. Is that going to be enough to prevent a Huge ammonia spike?

I have always used a sponge from the aquaclear hob I use by setting it in my DT sump for a couple of weeks. Works just fine and I think the filter pad should also work.
Get an ammonia indicator to hang in the tank just in case.

I would suggest you search on QT lots of good reading.
Many options
1. Cycled QT
2. non-cycled (will need frequent WC to keep Ammonia down)
3. Tank Transfer method
+1 on the ammonia badge - easy indicator and keep you from having to test 2x per day.
