Im thinking of getting a beautiful Black and neon green colored maxima I saw the other day. My lighint is detailed below. will this suffice? Can I place it on the bottom or only towards the top. I know brown coloration in the mantle means less light needed but what does black mean?

The coloration doesn't mean anything.... It's a maxima ( even if gold) and they still require intense lighting.. I'd definetly keep that piece at the top of you tank....

Be sure to have some sort of calcium dosing system in the tank, as well as good water quality..;)

with 175 watt i would place him at the top.
