Anyone have the pleasure of seeing this crazy rare piece over at Exotic? There isn't a lick of info out there except an article from ************. One problem is the shipping of this delicate species, let alone it's rarity. The pics you do see online don't hold a candle to the colors of the colonies they have. I'll see if I can grab a pic, but thought this was such a unique piece. Anyone else come across one, or own one?

That's gotta be somewhat related to mint pavona. Are they saying is difficult to keep long term or just so rare its unknown? Just judging by other similar corals I would think it should be easy.
It does look very pretty.

At first glance the branching Leptoseris looks kind of like a wavy form of branching Pavona cactus, a species similar to ORA’s mint chip Pavona, but the surface detail reveals very few, much larger corallites that are well pronounced. The newly imported colonies of the branching Leptoseris look like, newly imported stony coral colonies, that is a little pale and a little thin of tissue. In their current condition Leptoseris gerdineri doesn’t look like a potential showstopper, but once it’s settled in, lookout! With a few colonies to go around we very much look forward to seeing what this highly unusual coral can do in a captive aquarium ecosystem, we’ll be sure to follow up with this species.

There are some frags floating around I hear, and I hope to nab one. When you get your tank up, I would be more than happy to get you a piece if I still have it Patrick.

Also, the corallites are only pronounced on one side of the branching lepto unlike the pavona which is on both sides.
After all, the branching lepto is an awesome piece!

Looks like Bob is keeping one of the main colonies and only fragged a few pieces. I think there was 3 left after I grabbed one of these rare beauts. The colony came in as a Pavona so they tried ordering one again at it came in as a Pavona lol. Bob said he has never seen one and that's saying something. I told Ryan in theory, you shouldn't be able to order one again as there isn't any info out there, and hopefully we have a new gem here.

Tweaked,
How have you positioned your frag? I found information on it in Sprungs Coral Identification book and in one of his Reef Aqarium series. I had one about 16" down under 250/14k halides. Another same depth, but out of direct spectrum. I would call this location lower light. I've already moved the first one down some as it appeared to be losing a little of the pink it has near the edges.. I'm courious as to your starting location..
Thx,

On the bottom next to my other lepto which has been fine in that location. I have a feeling we will be in for a long wait on these.

I agree with the long wait.. Lol
Maybe worth it in the end though.. Let me know when/ if yours starts to grow out. I'll do the same.. It will be interesting to see how long Bob hangs unto the colony, or wether Ryan frags it to death.. :-) I'm going to keep bugging him to sell it to me..lol
Good luck and happy reefing with this one.

Couldn't pass this up, needed to add to my lepto addiction lol Had to snag one up. Good so far, pics under just coral+ and purple+. The blue+ washed out the pic too much, but it looks fantastic under the blues.

Hey Salty,
Welcome to our little club.. I bought 2 from Bob on 8/6. One smaller than yours and one larger. The larger had a little damage on the edge, which has already healed over. Mine are in 2 different spots low under halides.. Keep us posted on your progress..
Happy reefing.

Thanks! Yes, ill be sure to keep an update of its progress. It would be awesome if a bunch of us from CT can get this stuff growing in our tanks!

Me too, and just barely, I think it was the last one available!

Still got mine. Not a whole lot of growth but showing a little. I have had a lot of LPS die off. But the branching lepto is doing good. And I have a jaco that is just growing like a champ.

Mine is still going .. It has thickened up some.. Grown maybe 1/2 in size.. It's mid tank and I'm thinking of moving it up or down to see if I can encourage additional growth .. Any suggestions on different placement?
Up or down..

Sounds like they are hardy then? My other question: is it an LPS or an SPS?
Tweaked
06/07/2015, 04:15 AM
Technically they are neither and are simply polyp stony. The Whole LPS/SPS thing is just a hobby classification to help group them somewhere. On that note, they have small polyps.

That seems like a real nice price for that size piece .. I'd go for it if I wasn't leaving for vacation. How is yours doing .. Mine has grown some, thickened up, but has lost the pink/ purple edge..

Most of us lost ours. Bob still has the original so I was thinking about grabing another and this time keeping it away from my halides. He also got in a different piece just as cool!
