I have a very basic refugium sump for filtration and want to make it a very successful refugium. Right now in one chamber I have the drain from the main tank going to a large filter pad to get anything big. In the middle chamber I have a medium size thing of spaghetti algae, two medium size pieces of live rock and a deep sand bed. In the third chamber I have a carbon filter pad and the return pump to have the filtered water back into the main tank.

Is there anything that I should add/take out? What should I do to make it a successful refugium? Should I put fish in the middle chamber? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I once seen a refugium with seahorses in it. I thought that would be pretty cool to have as well but don't know much about seahorses. Are seahorses not recommended for that type of environment?

I would pull any pads, usually a nitrate sink unless they are changed out very regularly.
guessing you mean chaeto for macro?
Seahorses require low flow and some special care, could be done, extra work, but could be done.
I think I would rather see them than keep in my sump though.

So should I just add more macro algea? An call it a day? Or what should I do?
