hi all just wondered what everyone thought of my water quality at the moment my ph 8.2 ammonia 0.50 nitrite 0 nitrate 5.0 ppm, all off a api test kit. tanks been set up for about 2 months,800ltrs with 1 chromis, 25ltrs week water change

Ammonia and nitrite should never be higher than .2ppm
Do not put anything into the tank until the levels drop..

yeah my ammonia was about .2ppm now its shot up for some reason. just worried about the little guy iv'e got in there now. would you suggest using something to lower it asap?

You can but it will go away on its own.. Fish are fairly tolerant of "higher" levels of "stuff"..
Did you overfeed? Something die in there?
Did you even cycle the tank?

There shouldn't be ANY signs of Ammonia.
If there is that typically means you haven't finished your cycle yet.
Even in small amounts ammonia is toxic.

API NH3 tests often give false positives in SW IME.

I agree that ammonia kits can give false positives, so I'd get a second opinion. If I had some Amquel or the like on hand, I'd go ahead and dose some, though, as well. The other numbers are fine as is for a wide variety of animals.

yeah i cycled for a month before i put the chromis in.i checked the water at my lfs and ammonia etc is all fine thank god, it was api test kit. thanks guys wont be buying that rubbish again me thinks.
