I have a few areas that have purple stuff that if brushed away returns in one day. The purple stuff also typically has bubbles on & underneath it. Is this a sign of low flow or is it something else?

I have more power heads that can be pointed in that area but it seems to always make a piece of coral unhappy to have a new flow pattern.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Cyanobacteria, a common problem as tanks mature.
Go to the how-to sticky above and look up cyano. That will tell you how to fix it.

I remember cyano as being one of those things I spent a lot of time trying to get rid of when my tank was super new and then it magically just fixed itself with time. I like to pretend that the 48 hour no lights, carbon dosing, whatever else was cool to do helped.. but pretty sure the tank maturing is what actually did anything.

Thank you both for your help. The tank is fairly new so hopefully it does resolve permanently over time. I ended up doing a mini-water change and siphoning out what I could find.
