What is it and what will eat it.

This stuff was cool when it would only grow on the walls of my sumps, but now it has decided that live rock is fair game. Stilll not so bad when there was onle 10 or 20 of them but now in the hundereds. Whey are calcium based. Each shoot up is sperare. They range from >1cm to 2in. As they age, they die off from the bottom leaving behind a hollow white skeleton.

Neomeris annulata

It can get out of hand.
Urchins will eat it, as well as some tangs. Crabs too, but I don't like crabs. They look too shifty-eyed... you know?
