I recently purchased a tank and stand with the stand having some water damage. Anyone think the stand would be alright or should I reinforce it or replace the piece of wood? The stand is for a 120g.

I'd reinforce it if it was me

Define water damage,

miscoloration isn't what I'd call damage, rotten wood is serious damage that needs to be replaced, it's is probably somewhere in the middle, so no advice given here will be of any worth. So post some pics.

A 120 gallon tank set completely up is a serious amount of weight. Do yourself a favor & replace the stand, & avoid disaster, or at least sleepless nights!

That's what I'm thinking.

It's hard to get the big picture with what you posted but like others said do you want to wonder/worry/take a chance that you $5k investment might come crashing down doing even more $*K damage to your house. When in doubt chuck it out

It's hard for me to tell if it's plywood or particle board. If it's plywood and just the surface is a bit warped, it may very well be ok. If it's particle board it, at least IMO, isn't even fit for the fire pit.

The stand is plywood. I believe its just the surface on that side.

Light sanding and take a look at the damage from there. May be in good shape. If there is any question, replace the panels. Not worth a bunch of water on your floor.

I too just bought a stand from a local reefer. Has minor damage to bottom and the sides. Doesn't look like an issue but I am going to replace it anyways and reinforce the stand. Rather be safe then sorry!
