Hello,

I have a small rock with 5 orange florida ricordia. Really great looking piece and all 5 polyps are health. However, the 4 on the top, so to speak, are terrific, and one, on the side, is getting overshadowed now. Is there a way to detach the polyp and then reattach it elsewhere? Will it detach itself and float around until it finds a place?

They can detach themselves, just like all mushrooms. You can frag the rock that piece it is attached to. But mine detached overnight when I placed it into a shaded part. Usually as last resort they'll detach. I had a colony of discosoma partially under a cave. The shaded part stretched itself out of the shaded part, I'm surprise they can stretch that far, so I'm assuming ricordeas are able to aswell. Well until it got enough of it and detached itself after a week or two.
