Hello to all you reef addicts. I have a fairly easy question and I believe I know the answer, but will ask it anyway to maybe learn something new which seems to be par for the course in the hobby.

Ok here is the question
If I want to have a successful sps tank can i also have a successful mixed reef as well? Meaning in the long run will I be more successful housing only sps then I will housing sps, zoas, various lps.

It seems that if my sps are happy my lps is not and vice versa. I am trying to find that happy medium.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Don

It's difficult but certainly doable. I have good SPS growth and color in my 50 gallon mixed reef. There are some soft corals like leathers that make it more difficult due to chemical warfare, but with enough carbon you can work around most corals. http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu262/greenirons/50%20Cube/Tank7-10-143_zps60c53d35.jpg (http://s654.photobucket.com/user/greenirons/media/50%20Cube/Tank7-10-143_zps60c53d35.jpg.html)

So your oppinion is that it is easier..... Because of the chemical warfare part of it.

i think he said it is not easy because of the chemical warfare but doable with the use of carbons.

Like thegrun said, stay away from leathers. Isolate Zoas and shrooms away from any sps and run carbon.
