My VHOs that I used for actinic lighting went out and I am thinking of replacing it on my new 300 gallon tank with 3 x Radion XR30w Gen3. I also want to reduce the 4 Metal halides from 2 175 and 2 250s down to 2 of one or the other. Mt tank is 30" wide and 96" long. Marine Depot said I should be fine with 3 if I buy the wide angle attachments (they can go up to 30" x 30" but I thought I would ping people here and see what you thought...This is a new 300 to replace my old. We plan on having mostly SPS. KI want to keep a couple metal halides because I just don't see the shimmer I like in LEDs. We plan on having two big islands so each MH would sit over it

Thoughts? Will 3 be enough with say 2 x 250 MHs? Also, should I go with the Pro? What's the difference?

If it were me, I'd go with 4 of them instead of the halides but you could probably get away with 3 too. If you are running metal halides alongside them, then you would be perfectly fine with 3.

Thanks. I would but they just don't shimmer enough. I may add a 4th at some time and then just have the MH for show.

for a 96" long tank. i dont understand how your only using 2 metal halides to begin with...but just throwing this out there. its alot cheaper to buy a VHO ballast then 3x radions...plus radions wouldnt put out the same color as the VHO actinics (if your using the super actinic 03 vho bulbs)...

290479unfortunately I don't have many photos of his setup, but this is my friends 300gal with 5 radions only. I just took a picture of the monti he made as his showpiece.
