My sand bed is too deep. I don't know how much filtration it adds as compared to the LR. Do you bare-bottom guys run a higher amount of LR to compensate? I'm not removing it all, just half.

Get some sand sifters. The big nassarius snails are great.

How do you know it's too deep?
Sand beds offer little nitrate reduction compared to live rock

IMO your sand bed is fine. Some of us find Deep Sand Beds worthwhile ;)

I'm not saying they are not worthwhile Bill? The question was comparing deep sand beds to reef rock

Scott,

I was just trying to point that there really isn't a reason for him to worry about removing half his sand bed, just because someone told him it was too deep ;)
