View Full Version : Pumps mounted straight into DT bulkhead

I picked up two Waveline DC pumps for my closed loops. Any thoughts on mounting pumps directly into the bulkhead? The acrylic is 3/4" it is a 1-1/2” ABS bulkhead. Has anyone tried this before, if so what was the outcome.
These pumps are very light not more than a few pounds. My major concern is vibration loosening the bulkhead over time

Any though or comments are appreciated. Thanks!

vibration is bad news

I doubt it will loosen the bulkhead but I do think it will drastically increase the chance that you crack your bulkhead. Probably also not great for the actual acrylic tank face, but I'd place money on the bulkhead fitting going first. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

so um.. how are you going to replace the pumps when they go bad or leak or for cleaning? you have no way to stop water from just pouring out.. you need valves there..

He could just make a male cap with 3" of PVC glued to a cap that he shoves into the bulkhead from the inside to cap it off. BUT I agree it's not ideal, will be hard to get to, and I still think he's risking a bulkhead failure with the vibration and mechanical stress...

I don't believe that would crack a sch 80 bulkhead or a reverse thread water tank bulkhead. Out of the box thinking:) I would still add a single union valve so to be able to be remove and I would build a custom pump support.
