Dang.. how big does the mushroom have to be to eat an entire fish??

If a mushroom ends up hosting a clownfish, there could be an issue. I have seen it happen with rhodactis.

humm..That's a good point. I only have one fish and it is a clown. I guess the good thing is that he/s not interested in hanging out in anything but the water. Doesn't go any where near anything else....So I'm probably safe.

I wouldn't stress on it eating fish, that mushroom is tiny compared to the ones that do. Most mushrooms will eat fish food, mine seem to love spectrum pellets.

Mushrooms can definitely eat, sometimes they need more coaxing than others. Discosama mushrooms don't eat nearly as often as say rhodactis. But sometimes when you feed them something that is really oily, like salmon, they'll have a much stronger feeding response. Selcon and similar additives can really make pellet food attractive to them.

Wow!! I'm going to try this tomorrow. I've never seen my shrooms eat. I'll see if I can find some fresh wild salmon.

my lavender mushrooms are pigs. i feed them once or twice a week when i'm feeding the duncans and the plate coral. some of my lavenders are so big, they puff up almost to fist size when they're fed.

Out of the 20 mushrooms I have I only got one hairy mushroom to eat.

Very funny!

My hairy mushroom will eat if something falls on it, looks cool, just like the second picture.

I used to have hairy shrooms that would ball up and eat whatever the fish missed.

On an odd note, I also had a midas blenny that would hang out inside of them when they were balled up!! Never seemed to bother him cause he did it for years. That was a great fish! I think I need another one!

Do you have to feed them or is light enough?

Light should be plenty for them - I think feeding may help them grow a bit faster/larger, but in my experience not required.
