I have a dogface puffer with moderately severe tail rot. Before you hate and say Im a bad fish keeper. My tank is crystal clear despite not doing a water change in a while. But a possible cause could be my tesselata eel, when I couldnrt get to the pet store to buy him silversides. He used to chase after my poor puffer and injure his tail.Im not getting rid of it though, but I just have to have a stockpile of silversides to keep him full and not terrorize his tankmates(thids happens to all eels if not fed regularly,so dont say Im the only case with this).I plan on getting API fish antibiotics tommorow and see how that works.hopefully he doesnt die and heals up.:uhoh2::facepalm:(:sad1::worried2:

So you know that a you have a fish eating eel, and in your case you have experienced your eel biting your puffer, and you still are trying to ask for advice and are unwilling to get rid of the eel? How does make any common sense? You need get the puffer out to treat with medication - but if your willing to still keep both animals then you might as well do nothing since it most likely will happen again. Good luck because your fish are going need it.

He never has eaten any tankmates, and im not getting rid of him.He only does it when hes hungry and goes out to find food.wjich why I have to stay more on top of feeding him,and feed him so that he wont bother the tankmates.

Its so hard to choose though. Both are valuable to me,especially the eel.and for some odd reason i have 2 triggers in there that he tends to leave alone despite their size.

Once the eel gets big enough I'm sure the triggers will be fish food. Google for tesselata eel and see what they eat in the wild

Ive figured out a way to maybe get the eel from attacking my puffer.I could probably instead of giving it silversides, give it a larger sized baitfish to keep it satisfied.Because it doesn't attack the puffer all the time. The puffer stays at one end while the eel stays at the other. If he gets hungry he swims over to the puffers side and thats when a confrontation starts. But if he is well fed he doesn't bother the puffer. So the bigger the prey, the less likely he will bother the puffer.

i was also considering replacing the tessey with a japanese dragon eel.A lot more expensive a lot more pretty and not as aggressive.
