Hello,
My name is mona and would like to ask a queston.

I have just bought a brand new 90 gallon reef tank with everything I should need. lighting, refuge, skimmer, pumps. ect.
I ran short on money and bought live rock on craigslist.
I put all the rock in a 40 gallon breeder and noticed some white stuff on the rock. I am not sure what it is. sponge, bacteria. fungas.
I would like to set up my tank in a few weeks. and would not want something bad in there. I would like to know if I should toss the rock :(

Do you have a picture to show the white stuff? Could be a number of things from the description. Were the rocks cured well?

I see old dead algae that is white and also (what I think you are asking about) in the middle of the picture a white sponge which is a harmless filter feeder.

I agree lots of dead algae. Maybe give the rock a scrub.

Thankyou for the reply. Yes that's what I was asking about. I bought about 80 pounds of live rock from this kid and it has around 6 or more patches of that on it.
The storie is I found a 75 gallon with tons of stuff on craigslist.
3x 48'' aquaticlife t5 lighting fixtures all working.
12x 36watt coralife uv light working.
Iwaki MD30RLXT pump working.
80 pounds liverock.
and so much much more to list. all for 400.00

I got no use for the tank or stand. I have a brand new marineland corner overflow and a brand new R-100 refuge. What I really needed was the rock, awaki pump and UV light. I should be able to sell tank ,stand, overflow. Lights, And like four boxes of misc. stuff and get my 400.00 back. I hope :)

Nice deal, it's pretty easy to do on craiglist if your patient, good way to start
