Does anyone know what the part number of the TRIAC used in Neptune's Apex EB8 is? I can open mine up tonight when I get home just wondering if anyone knew off hand.

I doubt youl be able to find it. Its probably a proprietary part. Give Neptune support a call, never dealt with them myself but have heard great things about the service.

I did contact them, $60 plus shipping to repair 2 outlets. I'm an Electronics Engineering Tech, I can fix it myself TRIACs are cheap couple dollars each. I highly doubt it's proprietary its a common electrical component. Just my opinion, but I will know tonight when I open it up.

Nice!

Was the $60+shipping charge from Neptune just for the two triacs or for you to send your eb8 into them and they would do the repair?

Looks like you saved yourself about 70 bucks!

$60 was the quote they gave me to repair it at Neptune. $50 for first outlet and $10 for each additional outlet.

I know why they charge $50 for the first, to disassemble it is kinda a PITA.

I can do a write up on how to test them to make sure it's the TRIAC that's bad and how to disassemble it when my parts come in they will be here Monday. If your units still under warranty I would defiantly send it back to Neptune. Also if your not skilled or have the proper soldering tools to remove and re-solder through hole components send it to someone that does.

Talking with one on the Senior Engineers here at work he suggested switching the part up to a higher voltage rating to eliminate them failing in the future so I have change my order to

BTA12-800

http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/BTA12-800BRG/497-12146-ND/2827080

$1.95 each

Same part just has a higher off state voltage rating reducing likely voltage spikes causing failures. Which is the #1 cause of TRIACS to fail, unless they are put through over-current from heavy load or short.

I would definitely not be defiant about it. That might tic them off and who knows how long they'd take to fix your stuff. Just be nice and follow their normal protocol.

Thanks for the build thread.

It says to me that Neptune's price is really fair. For you, with the skills and tools you have, a DIY is fine. For me, electronics idiot, a broken EB8 goes to Neptune!

I know this is an old thread but I don't suppose anyone knows the part number of the #4 & #8 mechanical relay? I have a dead one and would like to order the replacement so I only have to rip it apart once.

is this still a known issue with new eb8's?

Not that I am aware of. My EB8 is now several years old.

I'd be interested in this as well.
