I have had my urchin for a couple of years or so. About 6 weeks ago, we had a water quality issue & among other things, the urchin started loosing spines. Problems have since been resolved but the urchin has hardly moved for for weeks and continues to loose spines. There is plenty of movement on his body from the little blue & white spines, the upper long spines move a little but the long spines on the undersides that help him move seem to be nearly paralyzed. While he continues to loose big spines, some of the ones that were lost are beginning to grow back.
Today there has been another turn for what appears to be the worse. His body has sunk in the center. This has been a dramatic and sudden shape change, however he is still alive.
I am not sure what to do or what is wrong. we have been observing closely so that if he dies, he can be immediately removed.
Is there any hope for recovery? should I euthanize the poor little. Guy?
