Hello All,

My first post included my tank specs, but for simplicity's sake, I will repeat them here:
150 gallon, reef tank (no corals yet)
2 clownfish
5 hermit crabs
1 brown powder tang
2 green chromis
1 coral beauty angelfish

I have a canister filter and 3 radion XR30w lights

So, right now my angelfish and 2 chromis are in a 10 gallon tank. They will be staying in quarantine until my fiance and I come back from Thanksgiving weekend. I have thoroughly researched these fish and it appears that they all should generally get along. However, I was unaware that the chromis are part of the damsel family like the clownfish. I have read that different types of damsels do not get along. However, on a site recommended by a member here, it says that chromis and clownfish are compatible. Can anyone give me some of their experiences in keeping these types of fish together?

Also, I am aware that the angelfish may pick at corals but have been told that the coral beauty one is one of the types of angelfish least likely to engage in this behaviour. Does anyone have any experience with this fish?

Finally, what would you recommend as suitable tankmates?

Thanks in advance!

Hey mate,

When people say damsels won't get along, they refer to more of the non-anemonefish, non-chromis genera.

In fact, I rarely hear people refer to the entire family as the damsel family.

So does this mean that they should be okay? I really didn't think chromis were damsels, but after doing some further research today, I just wanted to double check. Thanks for the quick response!!!!! :)

Chromis don't coexist with each other very well except in very large tanks and even then most of those keeping them post about how their stock slowly reduce in numbers due to aggression. Better off just getting one.

Coral Beauty is not reef safe. It will most likely pick.

All angel fish are a gamble and it seems that everyone says theirs does eventually. This may not be a big deal in a well grown out tank but it would be hard of small frags.
