Hello everyone,

I'm on the early side of stocking my 75g tank and i have only a few fish in right now. My 2 clowns are both really young, and while they do seem to have an affinity for each other, they do their own thing quite a bit too, not really even sleeping near each other.

Is this normal behavior? I'm hopeful they eventually pair up... is there anything i can do to encourage it? Does it just take time? It's only been about 2 months since i got them.

I have a pair that were supposedly paired before I bought them. It took them over a year before they started laying eggs. With that being said it's my understanding that you need quite the system to have the eggs reach maturity.

I'm not even worried yet about eggs and mating... I just want them to form the famous "pair" you always see

This whole idea of getting two clownfish of similar age and size and waiting for them to pair is, to me, odd. You gotta understand the biology of the fish. They are all born male. With time and size the fish will turn female. So best way IMO is purchase one and raise it up big and fat. Give it an anemone to host. In a couple years add a 1" long male and you'll get a pair almost right away.
