Posting a poll to see how many reefers quarantine their snails for ich prevention before putting into display tank. It is possible (albeit slim) for ich tomants/cysts to be attached to snail shells.

My money is on no one quarantines snails. I never did, but after having to go fallow for twelve weeks after I lost every fish but one to ich I'm seriously reconsidering for any future invert purchases.

Yes. I also quarantine my hands before placing/removing nori clips in tank, which is a bloody nuisance as I can only feed tangs every 73 days.

Nope. I rinse them off with separate tank water and drop them right in. I don't even acclimate them...Never lost one.

It's not a gaurantee against ich, but even with snails I only purchase from reliable sources.

Codyreed, for the recommended 11 or 12 weeks? Have u always or know someone who got ich from inverts?

Yup, I quarantine everything including snails.

I find it easiest to do this by running a 10 gallon reef that never has fish. This way, it is always in some stage of fallowness. I just add batches of inverts/corals, etc. in 12 week cycles.

Great way to monitor things and take care of aiptasia, nudis and other pests while also getting in a fallow period for ich.

Never! Just pop them in. But only once while tank was in cycle.

Who in the poll said they definitely got ich from snails? Someone did-- are u sure it was from an invert addition? Some fish can be carriers once they've survived it and sometimes it's in the tank for a long time and just doesn't show itself until something stresses someone.
Maybe wifey wouldn't mind a bucket w a filter in the garage... I've had a second tank up for the last six months and it really makes the room look messy cluttered.
