Let me first start out by saying this build would not be posible if it was not for Marek (Reefoman) and his impeccable, outstanding, quality artwork.

Marek's tanks are always built as if they are going in his own living room.
His kindness and professionalism does not stop there, help & suggestions for lighting and plumbing was of great help and appreciation.

So thank you Marek ;)

Now on to the tank:

Then it was time for me to build the stand

ATI Powermodule Hybrid
I was originally going with Halides but after seeing this light on Reefomans tank I knew I had to have it.
Keeping in mind the new stand was built low enough to hang MH just incase ;)

Could you explain what components you used to hang your light? Is it on an electric motor to raise and lower?

Not electronic
Just a 2x4 with pine board framed, painted white and screwed to the rafters and then I hung the light with one of these light kits.

Its a nice touch. I totally thought you might have it on an electric winch to raise and lower the light.

Very nice tank . I got my stand idea from yours and another member on another forum. Hopefully it'll turn out to look halfway nice as yours and ill be happy. I didnt catch what size powermodule you have. I bought my cousins from him a 24" 8 bulb to hold me over until i can upgrade to the 48" probably. Its so bright though so im in no rush.

Beautiful tank! I am planning a 100G and I am going to move away from StressPS as well! :bum: I really like how you have scaped your tank with lots of room for the fish to swim. What do you have on the bottom of your tank and why did you go bare bottom? Also, are you running bio pellets or anything else to export tank nutrients? You don't really have a lot of live rock and that is the direction I want to go.

Thanks!

Thank you Patrick I used a 3/4 Thick White Cutting Board
http://www.cuttingboardcompany.com/3-4-thick-white-cutting-board/

I went with BB because for me it is easier monitor nutrients.
Not knowing what was building up underneath my sandbed always killed me.

IMOP you only need as much rock as what looks good to you, there is plenty of surface area for good bacteria to build up with almost no rock let alone a minimalist look.

I used mostly brand rock so I could keep everything up off the floor and with great flow the idea is to get the detritus up and out of the tank.
For this reason I went with a closed loop system. 2 holes in the bottom,2 holes in the back and 2 over the top.

I Incorporated a 30 gallon conical settling tank before my sump which helps greatly during a water change that is where my detritus settles for easy removal.

I don't run bio pellets only because I don't need to, I like them but I have no need for them currently.

My total water volume is 210 gallons and I do a 40 gallon water change every two weeks.
I also run carbon and have a IMOP great skimmer but that's it.

Good luck with your new build ;)

Thanks for this great information! You have so many interesting aspects to your tank! I am looking at a tank from Planet Aquariums and I believe they build tanks with PVC bottoms. I am going to ask if they can make the bottom white. I currently just have a thin layer of sand so I can vacuum it clean with every water change but this might work even better. Or at least you would see white under the sand.

I also like the idea of the branch rock because once your corals fill in you can't see the rock anyway and then you get good rock spacing for flow and fish swimming. Did you start with live rock or dry?

I am going to look into the closed loop as well. That certainly cleans up the tank!

Thanks again!

Wow, incredible tank. I just purchased a tank and am starting to set it up and I plan to do all soft corals and I hope it turns out this nice.

Where do you get all of your corals from? I don't have anywhere to get them reliably locally and am going to be looking for a lot of what you have.

Thanks

Do you by chance know the names or street names of some of the soft corals and gorgs you have in there? I will need to start searching. Thanks

Hey Mike,

Saw your tank via TOTM, congratulations! I am just starting a 150gal build and would love your input if you get a chance. I have never seen a settling tank like yours but I would be really interested in figuring out how to incorporate it into my system. Look forward to watching your tank continue to grow!

Hi guys thank you very much for your compliments they are very much appreciated.
As far as the settling tank I'm really not sure how I can explain it any better than it was explained in the tank of the month article but if anybody has any specific questions I'd be happy to try.

Thanks again

Awesome!

I have a questions for you. I thought soft corals liked lower light but you must have higher light in that tank with those clams on the bottom of the tank. Correct? So I guess the soft corals can handle high light? Because some are up at the top of the water line.

Thanks.

Thanks.I have my ATI hybrid T5's turned down to 90% and my LED's run at 25% my fixture is 8" off the surface. I can't raise it that's the reason for lower settings on the light. I need to take a par reading just to see what it is? I have also heard that larger clams rely more on calcium than photosynthesis?
