What do you use?

From what Ive been told ARM coarse seems to be the most popular but wanted to see for myself what other people use.

Use regular ARM. The smallest size.

Two Little Fishies Reborn Media.

I had problems getting the coarse arm to dissolve. The Reborn has worked out much better for me.

The coarse arm is good for slower flowing reactors where clogging is an issue. With a high flowing reactor the finer media gives you more surface area and more media per cu/in of reactor space. I'm currently using the coralvue natural media in my GEO reactor but coarse arm in the slow flowing effluent chamber I have.

I'd go with the smaller media in that reactor. Geo reactors have great turnover rates so clogging should not be an issue. I also found that mag didn't drop as fast with the TLF and coralvue media.

How do you characterize the flow rate of a reactor, by its recirculating pump?

I had lots of trouble with the 618 and fine media. It clogged way to fast, i had to upgrade the pump and use the coarse media.

A friend ( nook ) recommended I use coarse ARM media.

Natural media with as small of particle size as you can have without getting clogged. I use the medium sized ARM.

Size of pump, plumbing and reaction chamber.
