Couple of questions. We need to get a booster pump at my school as our water pressure is 30-40PSI and we are receiving a 300GPD RODI system later this week to support our 150g reef tank.

We will not be using an RO storage tank, so my question is how do we turn the pump on and off without a pressure switch? Do we just unplug the pump when not in use?

Looking at items like these:

Thanks!

When I have used a booster pump in the past I would turn it off when not in use ( I would have it plugged in to a power strip and use that switch)

You want the Aquatec 8800 pump

+1 for the 8800......works flawless and totally reliable.

I have fears about using a 300gpd in a school environment with no auto shut off and no storage tank.

Is this going to be hooked directly to the sump on a float valve? Will the system have an auto flush? Any float switches solenoids?

RO units will not function properly hooked directly to the tank. They are great at producing large amounts of water at a time but terrible for producing small amounts all the time. I would reconsider the storage tank, brute trash cans from lowes are great but I am sure you could find someone to donate a clean 55g drum.

just have maintenance adjust the pressure regulator some then you don't have to worry about a booster pump.. :)

I think you misunderstood.... the RODI system will not be attached to the tank directly. By no storage tank I was implying no pressurized RO storage tank that would normally act to trigger the pressure sensitive shut off valve. We will be storing RODI in a 25g brute and multiple 5g totes for use around the room. The system won't be running all the time for small amounts like a direct connect ATO RODI.

I wish the FM could adjust the pressure but unfortunately it is not possible at our school.

None of the pumps you reference will work with a 300 gpd RO.

OK that sounds better.

I used to have two 50g pressure tanks. Was great until one burst when I wasn't home. Made an impressive dent in the ceiling .

Wow that must have been something to experience!

The large RO storage tanks we stock are rated to a max working pressure of 125 PSI. Burst pressure would be well over that. Wonder how you got that sort of pressure into the tank? Or was the structural integrity compromised by rust?

Did you call the manufacturer and ask what could have caused it to happen?

+1 on the 8800 and I just simply unplug when not in use.

8800 will not work with a 300 gpd RO system. Call us if you still need help spec'ing the right pump and controls.
