Hi. I started mixing weekly supply of frozen food. Got a question on its freshness..
I'm mixing all my frozens into a squirt bottle. (Nutramar, Mysis, Cyclop, Omega One, Brine, and Caviar) each batch will last 1 week.
question: If I add supplements like Selcon and Garlic.. would the frozen food still last a week in the fridge? selcon i'm not too worried.. but Garlice.. it smells like *** after a day.. not sure if the food is still good..

Being that a lot of foods out there are already infused with garlic, I think you should be ok. With that much variety though, I don't think you even need to enhance the food with supplements like that. Don't forget, fish will eat just about anything when it boils down to it. GL.

You could always only mix enough for only 3/4 days.
Where did you get nutramar?

I'm not sure I'd mix enough food for a week. I'd be concerned about it going bad. I mix enough for only a few days at a time. I add selcon every time but only do garlic 1x a week. I've read that the heads of mysis will turn black if it's gone bad.

alright thanks. I'll cut it down to 2-3 days. See how that goes.

this is what I have done for years with no issues. After 3 days I won't use it, it smells a bit funky.

For my coral food, I've blended all sorts of seafood together, froze them into sheets in ziplock bags, and then cut those sheets into squares and put them in a bag in the freezer. Now all I do to feed is take aout a cube or two, thaw in a shot glass of tank water, and use a few minutes later.
You can do the same thing with fish food without any problem. just thaw the foods out (add some water if you want to thin it out some), mix them together and freeze in sheets or one of those very small ice cube trays. That way the food can all be kept frozen untill needed, but you can feed all the variety you need daily.

Most of the food experts do not like to thaw and re-freeze. I don't thaw it, but do feed a wide variety. I take a about 25 small ziploc cups with lids, toss in a bit of flake, a few powdered-type foods like goni power and reef roids, and several cubes of various frozen foods. Store them in the freezer. When thawed, one cup lasts about 2-3 days (in the fridge) depending on how heavily I feed.
The experts don't seem to like it sitting in the fridge either, but it seems to have been working fine for the last several years. For that matter, I know a lot of folks do the thaw and re-freeze method without problems as well.

I wouldn't eat food that was made, frozen, thawed, then frozen again.
So I wouldn't feed my fish that.

I tried doing a week of food at a time and it just smells funky after 3 days. It gets this nasty rotting smell. I dont think it would hurt the fish at all because I am sure they eat worse all the time in the ocean. However my concern is more with it adding nasty stuff to the reef.
