So I got a blue maxima 8 months ago. I have a 29 biocube retrofitted Rapid LED lighting. It was very happy and healthy until 2 days ago. A week ago one of my LED strings went out (royal blue) and only the Blue and Cool White were running. It took about a week and a half to get everything back to normal ( buying lights, shipping, and repairing). Now my clam has lost its color, is completely open and its foot is inside it. I see no signs of spiral snails attacking or around it. All parameters are good and nothing new has been added to the tank since the beginning of June. Could it have been the light issue? He turned extremely quickly. Help! http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/29/75b9090b5002dfc8d1123d3fd6493afd.jpg

Clams can go belly up quickly, real quick.

Sorry, but I fear he is beyond help at this point. I have never heard of a clam recovering once the mantle pulls off the sides.

Judging from its shell, looks like there hasn't been any growth for a long time. Maximas are the most light demanding clam of all clams and your tank light might just not be enough even when it is fully on. Since you can see their rib cage to show how starved they are, they would appear to have "sudden" death but under that shell the clam has been starving for a long time. Sorry for this clam's demise. If you are considering another clam, I would recommend an investment on more powerful lighting. Thank you.

Sorry to see that he didnt make. I know they do not like changes in their lighting.
