Howdy howdy,
Wanted to check out a few of my ideas for a 125gallon. It has a 30 gallon sump with bubble magus protein skimmer and refugium with macro algae, 2x 800 gph power heads, 300w heater. It'll be a FOWLR tank with cowrie snails in the display and cerith, nassarius and emerald crab in refugium
I'm wanting to pick up the following critters over the next year or so...
Hippo Blue Tang
Powder Blue Tang
Foxface Lo
Sleeper Banded Goby (Dragon) - Large
Volitan Lionfish
Porcupine Puffer
Thoughts on these guys?

The puffer and lion aren't the best match

Porkers get BIG, as do Volitans. Eventually as long as a 125 is wide, almost. With those big bodied fish, especially puffers, there will be incredible amounts of waste. I'm not sure how well those two particular tangs will get along either, and Hippo tangs grow large enough to warrant an eight foot tank, so say the tang police... As will a grown Acanthurus tang like the gold rim.
A 180, with the extra 6 inches in width would be better but IMO perhaps an Arothron puffer and a smaller lionfish species or dwarf would be great. Along with two tangs from the smaller genera (Zebrasoma, Ctenochaetus) that are very different looking and introduced at the same time. The Fox face should be good.

Thanks for all the good info! I honestly didn't know there were smaller versions of lion fish. I'm not totally set on this list, it's just a list of the species that I find attractive. I was a bit concerned with having two tangs in the same tank, but figured if they looked different enough, they probably wouldn't bother each other? I'm considering taking a salifin instead of the powder blue or hippo. I prefer the hippo, but I am concerned about their susceptibility to disease. I saw one at my LFS that was covered in ich.

Puffers and lions are bad matches. Puffers bite lionfish pretty often. Best to choose one or the other, and go with a dwarf lion.
125 may be a bit too small for a sailfin.

I would much prefer a puffer than a lion, so I'll probably just skip it and go with something else.
