Thought it be cool for everyone to post their skimmer brand model, what size tank its on,and how many days the skimmer has been working for after cleaning the cup. I love seeing a good skimmer in action lol. Here is my reef octopus. Dnwb 110 recirculating. On a 93 gallon after 1 and half days.

How do you empty your cup?

It's right up against the glass, looks like no way to remove it.

SKIMZ SM253 Monzter DC Series. It's on a 350 gallon total water system. 225g display tank with all SPS, 85g sump, 40g frag tank. The highest volume of water is from the DT and sump though. This is after 1.5 days of collection. I empty it every 3rd day. Mind you, the collection cup holds 2 gallons of skimmate, so that's 2 gallons of skimmate every three days. Heavy bio-pellet load and heavy, heavy nutrient system.

Jack,
Nice to see the Vertex recirc. doing well. I kinda like the older Vertex body style better than the new ones.

I tend to think it is on some sort of stand for water level depth .

It is oversized for the tank and bio load, but it it is still kicking out good skim. That is an older shot, I haven't taken any new ones but it has been fairly consistent. That body style is a long time favorite, copied from the old EuroReef style, which IMO was the best body style for a skimmer that is short.

Lol its so close idk how I do it. But I tip the whole skimmer to the side and tilt off the cup. Marineland was stupid when it came to making a stand for a 93 cube. I was very limited on skimmers.

Out with the new, in with the old! My dc3000 skimmer pump died a couple weeks ago, I got this relic for free from someone's garage that was going to throw it away. I slapped Mag7 on it, and this is about 18hours of skimmate. It is skimming really wet, but I can fix that by raising it a little. The foam from this venturi is so different and darker than what I got on my needle wheel skimmers, it's got me starting a new project to hopefully be operative by Friday.

That is 3 days of skimmate on my 70gal system, mostly LPS with some SPS and a heavy fish load.

Bioload, maintenance, water changes, feedings, etc., all play a part in how much is produced.

+1 and bio-pellets.

I would like to know, along with the pictures, who is dosing organic carbon. A skilter will foam pretty good if you dose carbon.

Here is a few days of ASM G4 while dosing sugar:

As of now, I'm not. I am looking into trying the AIO Pellets.

No carbon dosing and no need, my nitrates are already too low.

150mg of Vertex bio-pellets on a heavy nutrient, 350 gallons TW SPS tank for mine. Hence the 'black' skimmate.

Nice pics keep them coming. Then when someone wants to buy a skimmer they have an idea of what kind of work they do.

Unfortunately, that is kind of misleading. Things like how wet or dry you skim, bio load, feeding amount, whether you run socks or not, use of ozone etc all play a big role in what the skimmer will pull out.

I run a BK Supermarin 250. I have reasonably heavy load with about 60 or so fish. I feed daily and heavily. I run four 200 micron socks that catch most of the solids before they reach the skimmer.

This is about 24 hours worth. That's about an ich of fairly thick stuff in a 10" diameter cup. It varies greatly depending how clean my socks are and how much I feed any given day.
