Ok so I want to get a skimmer? I don't have a sump or refug...so thinking HOB. I've read from some, that when they have issues, it can overflow out of the tank. Are there any HOB skimmers that don't use a design that would cause this issue? Are the Prizm prone to this? I initially was thinking of getting a Coralife 65G Super Skimmer. But like I said..don't like the idea of having overflow in my living room (nor would my wife). Also, should I get a sump...what size is appropriate. I have a 29 Gallon tank. I have an old 10 Gal tank just laying around. Is this appropriate? Just playing with the idea of a sump..mainly spawned by not wanting to deal with possible overflow issues that a HOB Skimmer may bring.

reef octopus skimmers are great. BRS features them on their website.

Aqua c remora pro. I have ran one for years hanging on my sump. Keep it clean and it works great. I have heard good things about the reef octopus though but have no personal experience with one.

I have an Aquamaxx hob1 on my tank. I started with the prism skimmer, it sucked. Love my current one though.

Sump is always nice. I have had the eshopps psk100h on my 40 breeder for 3+ years and it is the best and quietest hob skimmer for the money imo. It also has a drain line that you can run to a collection container so you don't have to worry about overflowing

Don't get the coralife for sure it is a poor design, the reef octopus is decent, but the aqua c remora and prism will drive you mad with the noise they produce!!

+1 for the aqua sea, but i must admit it takes some work to keep it quiet.

I have the coralife super skimmer and i can honestly say it's not a bad skimmer, certainly does a decent job and is reasonably priced.

I agree, mine works awesome but I often have problems priming it.

I do love my reef octopus but will say that every so often, once a month maybe?, it gets a wild hair and pulls a cup of water instead of skim. I work from home and can check it every day so this doesn't make me crazy, but I can see where it would be a problem if I wasn't able to monitor it constantly.
I do think it does a good job but we're working on a new build that will put the skimmer in the sump and I cannot wait.

+1. I run the same skimmer on my 46 bow. Super quiet and produces great skimmate.
