I have a 130 gallon (48x26x24) acrylic tank that has 1" panels all the way around. It seems MP40wes' barely have enough strength to hold on with dry testing. Was wondering if I bump up the pumps to MP60wes' will this be too much flow even at their lowest setting? I would have two in the tank at opposite ends. Let em know what you think.

What's the max output on the 40? Just fwiw I have a koralia mag 7 Which is 2750 gph constant on my 90. I have it on the front side blasting halfway across the the back wall. There is good flow in my wholen tank. I grow spa on the mid level rocks and even the sand right below the power head kicks my frogspawns and acans around well....lot of movement. I have a Rena canister filter I just use all chemical filtration for which puts out 300 gph on the other end of the tank. Its not doing much and I really don't need it a all for the flow.
Bottom line if the 60 lowest setting is around 3000 gph I think you'll have no problem.

On the lowest setting no, they would not be too much.

The mp40 won't hold themselves onto thick panes. They need to be supported. The mp40 officially doesn't work on 1" but if you support the dry side properly it will.

It'll be way too much. Mp60s are pretty strong

I've got 2 MP60's in a 30x30 cube. I had mp40's but it just didn't work well because the acrylic was too thick. if u do go with the mp60's, your not gonna be able to get higher then a little higher then the lowest settings. But it will work.

Thanks for the responses. The previous owner ran the tank closed loop, bb with mp40's. The sides were painted because it was an in-wall display. I could tell the mp40's were sliding down by the marks in the painted sides. I'll need to think of a solution but supporting the pumps makes sense.

You will be fine just run them at a lower speed less noise and heat and pump will last forever

I have mp60's. Just keep them low and you'll be fine.
On my 7' tank, they never get above 70% or so.
You'll also benefit from a bit wider flow.

Replace the thin rubber spacer with thin double sided tape. Please... get them in the right place before you stick them to the tank ;).
