used tank - slight tattered seals - main seal ok

hi all,

Q) Silicone bead (feathered) edges - tattered edges do or don't matter?????

I bought a used 30G and the seals are slightly tattered at the edges - the main thick (corner) seam is fine. I filled the tank for 24 hours. No leaks.

I've been told that the "edge" of the bead does get tattered is for looks and that the "real" sealing (glue) takes place between the panes of glass.

I really don't want to re-seal the tank or a leak.

They do not matter- pending the seal in between is good, your fine. Yes, the excess is what is squeezed out during the build.

I was really nervous about it - now I feel better.

I've only had one tank leak on me ; a 55G it began with a weeping leak. But I have fears of - "the levy is gonna give way !!!!!" :)
