Why do you need to keep so much 'old' water

Local reefers, see if you can get people's empty salt buckets.

I get mine here about $8 each and awesome. I store water in them for water changes etc.

Why not get big garbage cans that roll which carry more than 5 gallons. Might save money

The Depot sells them for like 4 or 5 bucks per bucket/ lid set.

Absolutely...

Pump/siphon into the larger containers...Bribe some friends with beer and pizza to help load & unload them...then pump it back in at the new location...

Use 20 gallon totes. You can find them from 4-8$ depended on where you go. You will need fewer of them, although they will be heavier. With this route its easier to use a small pump to get the water back in the tank rather than dumping them. I can lift one 3/4 full, but I second the idea of offering a beer to some generous helpers.
Also you typically only want to take 3/4 of the tank water so they can start to acclemate to any subtle differences in the water where you're moving.

Home depot sells 20 gallon brute trash cans. The size of them is pretty nice if you want something smaller than the full size trash cans.

Aside from being very heavy when filled, most totes and large trash barrels can not be sealed properly and anything over 3/4 full will 'slosh' out when transported
