so I'm new here and i've had my 90 gal reef with a 20 gal custom sump up and running since last year oct .i've been running npx biopellets since 31st oct this year and I'm noticing brown algae on the sandbed.the pellets are running in a reactor and are being fed into the inlet of the BM nac 7.. skimmer is pulling green . is this normal? I'm running slightly less than half of the dose.. no3 was always around 10 but recently i had something die on me on vacation (tank sitter was there ..go figure)and it shot up to 70ppm(salifert) recently i've added biopellets and did big w/cs .. trying to pinpoint the nitrate problem.. the most i could figure was that every time i did a water change i would stir the ssb(1") and a whole lot of detritus would pop up.. which explains the no3 spike.. corals and fish are all fine.
