I bought the Cobalt Neo- Therm for my wifes 29g tank and so far after 5 months, there's no issues. Now that we're setting up more tanks, the fairly high cost is in question, but
I don't mind if it's worth the extra money.

What brand do you like and why ?

Cobalt Aquatics Neo-Therm
1) Quality engineering
2) Unbreakable
3) Jet black so it blends very well
4) Slim design (and I mean slim!)
5) Accuracy
6) Temperature dial "set it, and forget it"

If the Cobalt Neo Therm has performed flawlessly...... why change?

Like I said, "fairly high cost".
And,....just because. :love1:

I've always had good experience with Eheim Jager heaters. I always use two smaller ones instead of one larger one though. I like redundancy :)

What he said... Nothing worse than a heater failure when you are on vacation. Two heaters, and a controller are a must...

Cobalt Neo Therm & EHEIM Jager are the best two around. Can't go wrong with either.

I had a 200W Cobalt that I had placed in on of the compartments of my Reef Octopus HOB skimmers. Apparently at some point it had swollen and split down the entire length of the heater. I reached out to Cobalt and they very quickly sent me two 100W heaters to replace it.

Jagers x 2 as well for me. Replaced yearly without pause. They are so inexpensive not to replace every year and have piece of mind!

I have a box of year-olds laying around lol. You realize they are all still working until they are not. They cycle on and off a heating element in salt water constantly. You do realize they are like $40 each, and with sales, etc. why would you risk all of your livestock? I can't even fathom anymore how much coral I have and what it's worth!

Ehiems on Ranco controller. I like having 2 devices keep my tank from cooking.

I use an eheim controlled by an apex and will soon get another one to run two. Won't run a heater without some kind of controller, like others have said, there's too much invested for it all to ride on a $30 piece of equipment.

I would think twice about the cobalt heaters. Any heater has the chance to fail. However, when my cobalt failed, it release tons of foul smelling smoke into my house. Fortunately I was home when it happened or my two dogs could have potentially gotten very sick from it. Now i have two ehiems. If they fail, at least they won't fill my house with smoke. At least I don't think they would.

Sorry, I know this didn't answer your question. Just wanted to let you know of my experience with cobalt heaters.

^ Basically this.

Really, anything on a Ranco, since it isn't like it matters all that much if the heater gets stuck on. :lolspin:

But Jager's don't have much a price premium attached to them so the only reason to not go with them is if size is an issue.
