Hi all,
this morning its cold here in the Norteast. so i went and checked my tempt reading on the Apex Jr, it said the tank tempt is 82.5 degree
I recently bought a new Ranco and by curiousity i placed the tempt probe of the Ranco into the same tank and 5 mintues later it was reading 81 degree.
So whose telling the truth?

No matter how many thermometers you put, most likely they will all read different.
Consistency is more important then the actual temp. As long as what is controlling your heaters is working properly, and your temp is consistent............you'll be fine.
I have 4 different temp probes in my system, 2 in the sump and 2 in the display. Both are nearly side by side in each location, and they all read different.

We have a Pinpoint and a Ranco. Again they're about a degree apart. No worries.

that's why the software allows for calibration.

Calibration to what?
How do you know which is right and which is wrong?

It's likely both are wrong but this isn't an issue. I think BRS had the best idea.

Control Company Model 4244 (http://www.grainger.com/product/TRACEABLE-Thermometer-6KEC4?functionCode=P2IDP2PCP)
Accurate to 0.05 degrees C, but thats only for the hard core nerds like me :D I do believe that temperature is more important than folks think. I strive to keep my tank within a 1 degree range of 79 to 80 F (26.1 C to 26.7 C). I had a Ranco controller for many years. I never calibrated it, and when it finally failed I replaced it with an Apex. I like the Apex MUCH better, but I calibrate it often. Although it hasn't strayed far so I may back off on the frequency of calibration.

You can test the ranco probe with a multimeter.
