Hi guys
I recently moved and setting up a Cadlights 8g pico.
Hoping to keep sps!! Haha
I've just tested for water leaks and put up a fishneedit 70w MH over it.
I also put in a jebao wp10 for more flow.

Plan is to do a cup water change every other day.

Question:
1: Is the height of the light ok? It's about a feet above the tank
2 I tested the water temperature : 82-83 at the end of 9 hour MH on with the return pump and the wp10 on.
Is that temp ok?

3 without the wp10 on, it stay 1-2 degree cooler. About 80-81.

Question is shud I keep the power head? I think I'll need it for the sps?

4: another question: see how the power head is in the display area on left side. I was wondering if I should make a hole in the back acrylic and keep the power head in the back compartment and flow coming out that hole. Is this even necessary?

See pics below

Thankyou!!!

I would say that the powerhead is necessary. I would just leave it where it is. It doesn't appear to be taking up an exorbitant amount of space and it blends in to the back of the tank fairly well. Temperature is high. 78 degrees Fahrenheit would be best. I certainly wouldn't want it consistently over 80 degrees. Drop your photoperiod down to being 7 hours or so to see if that lowers the temperature significantly.

Thank you for your input.
I'll leave the power head where it is.

I can certainly reduce the photoperiod to 7 hours.
That might help, but not sure if that's enough.

Reason I was asking abt the power head was it seems like that itself raises the temperature about 2 degrees easily.

Maybe I just put the power head on a timer 1/2 hr on off....that way it will be on 12hours stead of 24 hrs.....

Also is the light height ok?

that pump is overkill ..

i have an 18 gallon cadlights and a pump that size in my tank would be ALOTTTTT of flow.

I have a mp10 on mine and typically on the lowest settings for whichever mode. Sure, it can be used on something larger but it works fine in my tank as well. His should be just fine as long as the flow can be adjusted.

I'm not sure the level you are running the mp10 on now, but if you run it on low like JJ650 suggested, that might cut the heat some.
As far as the light height, it seems like it should be ok, but I'm not very familiar with halides. I use an dimmable LED, so the height of the light isn't as much a concern for me.

The flow was too much, blowing the coarse gravel, so I decreased the power supply to 12v from 24 v to the wp10.... Now it seems tame. But I still see pretty good flow

Some updates:
the birdnest I got, is beginning to grow. The 'green apply monti' or so I though died.

Dec 5 I had bought a ton of corals, many acros, some lps and some zoas.

Intitially they were growing good. i was just changing a pint of water daily.

Then seemed something was not right, finally was able to get my test kit and tested.
Alk calc were very low, phos was 0.66!!!!!!!!! that was despite me barely feeding once or 2 in a month. No fishes.

All Acros were STN ing....I fragged each big frag into multiple small ones........

Started hand dosing Kent Marine nano a/b....1 ml....2ml...........4 ml..........8 ml.......12 ml........15 ml now!!!!!!!
and past 3 weeks things are beginning to stay stable....... finally....
Phos......had to use ENOUGH GFO in media bags and the last test a week ago was 0.05ppm YAY

past 3 weeks things are really beginning to grow.

Except ONE colony : WWC blueberry ( all of its frags died, but there is a tiny patch of it thats browned ?not dead)....all other acro frags survived....so now I have 15-20 frags of acros LOL.... all encrusting....with all polyps out.

The acan, duncan, candycane orange crush, green favia polyps are so large I havent see them that big in my tank before. lol

The acros are finally begining to slowly get back color....most are still browned..... I hope they get their color back, the phos is controlled now...... time i guess.....weeks to months....

How is your tank coming along? What does it look like now?

Things are coming along ok. Most Sps have brown color, but all are growing pretty fast.
Too less space on the bottom too, overcrowding and growing
Battling with green hairy algae despite frequent water changes and GFO and chaeto and small dsb......
