It isn't weird to want your tanks inhabitants to survive. A healthy tank thrives on all levels.

Wow, thanks for the link. Its a good read. So glad I can collect my snails here and its an ethical choice.

Do you guys on the west coast even get a choice in snails at your LFS?

i've seen some of the non-tropical ones being sold here. the margarita and red foot trochus. anyone know what snails are tropical and what aren't?

i've had the best luck with mexican ceriths, nassarius vibex, and dwarf ceriths as far as survivability goes. i've had bad luck with mexican turbos. from the articles, it seems like you can't go wrong with ceriths. my vibex survived my 6 month tank shut down. so did the bristleworms and gammarus shrimp (amphipods). heater was off, pumps were off, fed a couple times a month. the gammarus actually reproduced to sickening numbers. they were everywhere. they were always out and never hiding cause they had no predators.

good read ... i like my cuc ... all of them ... im just as upset when one dies as if i lost a fish ... i had a sea hare get huge and then die ... because i cured my hair algae ... now i let the hair alge alone to feed my new hare ... tank looks a bit messy but thats the price ... sadly the clinical tank look and reality dont mix unless you severely limit the stock choices
i should have said something in the tank of the month thread abut damn that tank is sooooo pretty i want it and my cuc too ... 4 tanks then ?
