View Full Version : skimmer recomendation for 175G
hi
i currently own an ATB 840 skimmer with dc airstar pump.
fantastic skimmer and very happy with it, but its xmas time :celeb1:
fancy a change….could you recommend or advise on upgrade
i was thinking
1. bubbleking double cone 180 (same size as my ATB, but only rated at 500l?? cant be right)
2. bubbleking double cone 200 (i think this is too big, but royal exclusiv rate for 1000l)
3. Bubbleking mini 180
space and cost is not an issue, so please advise your opinion.
i think the 200 size will be overkill but according to Royal Exclusiv the 180 cone is too small, but the 180 mini is fine……confused :(

B.K. Supermarin 200.....

I thought maybe that would be overkill???

Hows your bio load ? Are you planning on adding more fish ? Do you feed a lot ? Are you planning to upgrade in the future ?
Medium. No more fish as looks to busy. Feed twice a day. No upgrade unfortunately as its a hole in wall system.

I was just talking to the guy at ATB usa. I am also thinking about buying a new skimmer. I have about 245 gallon total volumn, with a heavy bio load. I asked him what he would recommend and he told me either the ATB 840 with the dc pump which you have :), or the 1050. Do you think the 840 could handle my tank ? Both these skimmers are currently on sale.
I'm Not sure.
My skimmer performance is fine on my reef. my only things is thats the body is small so maybe it wont process enough water for your larger reef.

@vikz..
if you want a BK .... please use the RD3-Speedy Pump.... Double-Cone 200 or Supermarine 200 include RD3 is a Dreamteam ...
The Mini 180 is yet the moment not aviable with a RD3 Speedy Pump...
best regards ... Klaus
Hi klaus
I think my sump chamber may be too small…..
If skimmer must be 6" or deeper water my footprint is 410x270mm
or if the skimmer can be in 6" of water or shallower, footprint is
410mmx300mm.
Can I fit a double cone 200 in there with pump???

ATB 1050A with the AC pump, no problem. The 840 will be on the small side for your tank.
