Is my zoanthids sick? What is that growing on the bottom with holes?

did you add anything to the tank recently?

it looks like its mutating into something...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Zoa!

It looks like a sponge of some sort. In most cases these are harmless, but there are some varieties that can end up smothering corals. Just keep an eye on it.

Yea it's growing fast, last week I didnt have any of that.

No I didn't add anything, it was actually last coral I added 3 weeks ago. Right side started to recede and then this sponge showed up. Can diatoms be the problem? You can see on the zoa some of diatoms.

the bottom looks like sponge. purple? I have them in all colors.. purple, yellow, white, green..

as for the zoa, how long have they closed up? did you dip it before adding into the tank? has it been fine before?

They never open all at once, top one open the most, I did dip it in the Coral X, maybe I should dip it again? I have it only for 3 weeks and never see them all open.

what lights are you running? have you tried moving them higher? The lower polyps are growing long stalks, they are reaching for more light.

i have a lot of different zoas, some prefer intense lights and some are ok with low-med. Try place them higher. Most do fine under high light, and good flow. the only zoas I have issue with intense lights are the Maul series. Darth Maul, Gold Maul, Orange Maul.

I have 48'' BML one all spectrum and another one is super actinic. I can try to move higher, I was under impression that zoanthids stay on the bottom.

I placed them in all positions. For me, the higher ones multiplied faster.
