View Full Version : Another Nitrate question

After letting my 65 gal FOWLR tank go for many, many months, I decided it was time to clean it up and start adding fish. Currently have a clown fish and a 3 to 4 inch Yellow Tang. All parameters were good except nitrates. >160 ppm per API test kit.

After 5 - 50% water changes in 3 weeks, the nitrates are down to the 20ppm range. I've been vodka dosing for 2 weeks also.

Is there a good nitrate test kit that tests for the low end of nitrates? Seems the API is good on the high end but it will be hard to test the effects(sp?) of dosing down in this range.

Thanks in advance,
David

I use the salifert . It gives a readable low end 0.01 and up.

The Salifert seemed to work well enough for me, too. The IO kit seemed good, too.

I'm currently using the Salifert test as well.

My vote is for Salifert also, just make sure you have good indirect light when testing.
